Day Centers
Support for persons with disabilities begins at an early age through early intervention and continues with special education. After the completion of secondary education, the State continues to support persons with disabilities through the institution of Day Care and Daily Care Centers.
Merimna operates two Day Centers. One center is located on the streets of Mythica and Hera with a total capacity of 66 individuals, and another on 19th May Street 3 with a capacity of 25 individuals. Both centers are licensed by the Regional Unit of Pieria to provide services to individuals with intellectual disabilities or multiple disabilities. Both centers are fully renovated with state-of-the-art equipment and educational tools.
The centers are under the scientific supervision of a renowned psychiatrist and child psychiatrist and are staffed with trained personnel with experience in providing services to individuals with disabilities.
The design of the individualized intervention is carried out by the interdisciplinary team, which consists of all the psychologists and social workers from both centers, always under the guidance of the respective Scientific Director.
The therapy team of the center, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists, evaluates the current functionality of each individual with a disability and, through a process of goal-setting and reassessment, aims to improve the abilities of the beneficiaries of the facilities. The therapeutic program is complemented by the equine therapy department and the sensory integration room.
All of the above is largely implemented by the instructors of the facilities, who apply the day care programs, group occupational therapy, recreational activities, sports, and music and dance events. Within the Day Care Centers, productive workshops in bookbinding, candle making, decoupage, soap making, and plant production are operated. Naturally, we also often organize outings and visits to interesting places such as museums, exhibitions, etc.

Assistive Technology
Merimna Paidiou Katerinis, listening to the needs of the times but mainly those of its beneficiaries, uses Assistive Technology (AT) as part of their education. Assistive Technology supports the enhancement of an individual’s functionality. This can range from something very simple, like a pair of glasses for myopia, to an electric wheelchair for a person with mobility impairments, or even a system that detects the eye movements of a user with ALS and converts them into cursor movement on the screen.
